If you are caring for a relative or friend who cannot manage without your support, then you are a CARER.
He or she may be an adult or child with an illness, physical or learning disability, or have mental ill health.
Looking after someone can be tiring and frustrating and you may be worried or anxious because you don't know what help is available or have anyone to talk to about the situation. As a Carer, you have your own needs and are entitled to help.
Share the Care's staff are here to listen to carers and to help them find their way through the maze of information. They aim to inform carers of what is available and assist them to access this help.
Information can be accessed by:
- telephoning the Carers' Centre
- visiting the Centre or arranging to see a Carers’ Support Worker on an appointment basis
- attending Carers' groups
- telephoning to arrange a visit from a Carers’ Support Worker
Information covers a wide range of issues and services relevant to carers including information on specific illnesses and disabilities, aids, equipment and adaptations, explaining the role of professionals, respite, day care, holidays and services available from other voluntary organisations.
Staff will also assist with information on benefits for Disability Living Allowance (DLA), Attendance Allowance (AA) and Carers Allowance (CA) applications.
Where carers are facing difficulties, ongoing support and information is available to assist with problem-solving.
A free and informative Carers' Newsletter is available to carers on request and is mailed out regularly.
Countywide Carers Support Services
We are here to listen to what Carers are saying about their lives and inform them of services that can help them regardless of where they live in the county.
We have
Carers' Support Groups across the county and we also offer local individual support
Share the Care offers carers the opportunity to meet other carers in a mutually supportive, informal and confidential setting in Carers' Groups across Lincolnshire.
Carers Groups operated and/or co-facilitated by Share the Care
- Lincoln Carers’ Group
- Boston Carers’ Group
- Spalding Carers’ Group
- Grantham Carers’ Group
- Skegness Carers’ Group
- Bourne Carers’ Group
- Market Rasen Support Group
- Sleaford Support Group
- Young Carers
We welcome the opportunity of working with other voluntary organisations or carers' groups to help them establish or extend their own carers' support services.
Share the Care also offers individual emotional support locally to carers who may need the freedom to express their own feelings about their caring role and the effect this has had or is having on them. This service may be accessed regularly or on an as and when basis, possibly when the carer feels under stress because of a change in circumstances.
Share the Care's aim is to offer a flexible, needs led service to ensure that carers feel supported and that they have somewhere to turn when under stress before circumstances lead to a crisis situation.
When requested to do so, Share the Care will support carers at meetings etc. and assist carers in liaising with professionals. A carer advocacy service is also available.
Quotations from Carers
"Every time I rang Share the Care they responded quickly. They listen to what you have to say and how you were feeling. My word for them is ‘excellent’ and I appreciate the help."
"I didn’t have anyone to talk to, they were a word of comfort to me."
“Sometimes you want to go out as a couple or with children and you feel guilty about leaving the one you care for. The person who visited me was very nice and understanding and helps you not to feel guilty about some of the things you were, or might, be feeling guilty of.”
